Test Results

Blood Tests

Blood Tests should normally be booked with the phlebotomist who works the following sessions:

  • Monday 9am to 11am
  • Thursday 9am to 11am and 2pm to 4pm

These sessions are subject to change so please check with the receptionist when booking. If however it is impossible to attend at these times an appointment can be made with a nurse.

Test Results ordered by your GP

The doctors check their own results and letters and have a system to indicate whether a result is normal or abnormal and if a follow up appointment or further test is necessary. When you ring for your result the receptionist will convey this message to you. Please remember however that the receptionists are not qualified to interpret results so if you need to discuss a result, please make an appointment with the relevant doctor.

Results of Tests Ordered by a Hospital Specialist

Results of tests ordered by a hospital specialist do not automatically come to us. If your specialist has expressed an intention to forward your results to your GP please allow at least 2 weeks and phone first to make sure that the results have arrived before making an appointment.

Results of Smear Tests

Normal smears are recalled every 3 years or if you have abnormal smears it may be more frequently. Sometimes a smear is inadequate you will be called by the

surgery to have it repeated. If there is any problems with your smear that needs referral to a Gynaecologist the surgery will contact you to see a doctor in the surgery. Smear results can take a few weeks to come back from the Cytology Department, you should also receive a copy of the result in the post.

Confidentiality

Results for patients over 16 years of age can only be given to the patient.
